Within this book, Theresa Palek writes the history of her grandfather, who wrote the letters to his mother almost 100 years ago. He taught his granddaughter, "No matter how busy we are in life, we should all stop and listen to the 'music' God is playing for us." Palek has learned to hear God's music everywhere in God's creation, and it is this spirit that inspires her book.

Palek shares with her readers an inspirational story of love and courage, which took place in southern Indiana in the time following the sinking of the Titanic. Her grandfather had much to overcome in his lifetime, and it was his faith that gave him strength to overcome the challenge of being a man with only one leg in a time that was not friendly to the handicapped. This book shares those struggles along with the story of the great love he found on the campus of Indiana University.

Palek wrote I Always Hear Music at the urging of friends and the women she spoke to at ladies' groups and retreats. As she told them stories of her grandfather and his letters, she was encouraged to write a book about him. This was a return to her first love for Palek, a former teacher and environmentalist. Her grandfather taught her love for God and His creation, lessons she has shared as a childrenŐs Bible teacher for the past 25 years, and now brings to a greater audience by sharing the story of his life.
