LONGWOOD, FL-The world needs corrective lenses when it comes to our perception of other people. Thankfully, the Great Physician has the right prescription to give us 20/20 vision. Valerie Baker sets out to prove in Do You See This Woman? Clearer Vision Through Jesus' Eyes (978-1-60034-925-6) that underneath all labels, skin colors, status, poor choices, life traumas, self attached masks, and dazzling beauty lies a person. That person has feelings, needs, dreams, gifts, abilities, thoughts, and personality. As people, we all are a product of God's exquisite craftsmanship, and He adores us as we are. But we have trouble seeing one another as He sees us, so Jesus stepped into our shoes to show us how.
Do You See This Woman? is designed to help us see people as Jesus sees them. Says Baker, "Whatever problems there are between people, whether it be the breakdown of the family, war in the Middle East, disharmony among God's people, or any other relational issues, the source of the problem is the way we see one another. If we placed the same value on each person that God does and followed His principles in our relationships, we would have so much more hope of resolving these problems and enjoying peace and harmony in our homes and in the world."
Baker herself has been on both sides of "poor eyesight." She grew up in an alcoholic home and was bullied by neighbors and put down by schoolmates. She looked for self-esteem everywhere and finally found it in God. But it was God, she says, who opened her eyes to see her own value to Him and the value of every individual He created. She no longer prejudges people as homeless, famous, beautiful, handicapped, rich or poor, black or white but as GodŐs people, with a capacity for great love in their hearts.
