Unsolicited Award Opens New Doors for First-Time Novelist
The Island of Marna, by Jamey Heit, has been chosen as the Princeton Seminary Mailroom's book of the month. Past winners include Ann Waldron, a prominent East Coast author and scholar. Says Heit, "The fact that it was unsolicited took me completely by surprise. The committee heard about my book through the local press." The book, which previously received praise from Richard Osmer, a Princeton Seminary professor, caught the eye of several youth pastors across the country who also contacted Heit about teaching his book in their youth groups. Riding the success of MarnaÕs award, Heit has two confirmed speaking engagements and is planning on scheduling more soon. |
