Author's Book Spikes Interest Among Church Librarians and More

After attending a book signing at Cornerstone Christian Bookstore, where 30 or more church librarians held their quarterly meeting to discuss purchasing books for their libraries, Xulon author Jeanie Cline saw a dramatic increase in sales for her book, Step into My Heart...and Back into Time: "My book has been selling with enthusiasm from this store, and now orders have spiked with interest from these dedicated people," Cline says. Additionally, she was recently invited to hold another book signing with nine other fellow North Carolina authors at the grand opening of Venti's Casa in Lenoir. The turnout was phenomenal, the sales were a great success, and the local newspaper covered the event in their Sunday edition. As for plans to write a second book, Cline says, "I am continuing the writing of my second book, a Christian novel. I am so grateful to Xulon Press for making a lifetime dream come true."

Author's Schedule Kept Busy with a Plethora of Bookstore Visits

Xulon author Deborah K. Finley recently got back to her roots with a write-up in her local Illinois newspaper, the Northwest Herald Local News by journalist Sarah Sutschek. The article detailed, among other things, the author's book, her life in Chicago, and one experience at the age of 15 that changed the course of her life and later provided the groundwork for her bestselling book, What Your Future Holds and What You Can Do to Change It. During the course of the candid interview, Finley talked about everything from negative past experiences to her bright plans for the future-plans which currently include penning a children's book. She also revealed her upcoming plans for promotional stops throughout Illinois: a visit to a silent auction and dinner at the Bull Valley Golf Club to raise money for Home of the Sparrow, an organization which provides transitional shelter and supportive services for homeless women and children, and to which a portion of her profits from the book are already going. She also plans to autograph copies of her book at the Barnes & Noble in Schaumburg, as well as throughout Crystal Lake, Johnsburg, Algonquin, and Island Lake. Her book is also stocked locally at Lemstone Christian Store in Algonquin and New Life Book Store in Crystal Lake. Of a recent book signing at Barnes & Noble in Crystal Lake, Finley says, "The store sold out; 26 copies were sold. Also, due to the story the local newspaper did, I received calls from two radio stations, and one did advertising for me. Another radio station [WMCW 1600 AM, Harvard, Illinois] interviewed me live about my book."

Dying to Live Makes Waves Among Maori Christians of New Zealand

Ken Gartner, a New Zealand Maori and Xulon author, saw his successful career as a teacher come to a sudden end 24 years ago when he served a short term of imprisonment. Upon his release, he began penning a book to help inmates and prisoners on death row survive by calling on the strength of Jesus while in prison. Now, Dying to Live is making waves all throughout his hometown of Wellington. The author recently held a national book launch after a service at Elim International Church, of which he is a congregant. The event was a success, with 300 to 400 people attending to show their support. The launch was opened by an indigenous Maori Christian, Pastor Mike Knott, with a "karakia" (prayer) in Maori. Following the pastor's address, Prison Fellowship of New Zealand Chief Executive Kim Workman spoke on the topic of supporting incarcerated men and women, and then the author finally took the floor with a Maori and English greeting. "I spoke on my own downfall and incarceration and how the book subsequently came into being," says Gartner. "After speaking on the book's evolvement, I called three other Christian ex-prisoners on to the stage to participate in the actual book launch itself." From that weekend on, Gartner has been taking his book all over the north island of New Zealand every weekend to give his testimony, a message, and sing gospel songs to a moved congregation each time. As a result, Dying to Live is selling exceptionally well and being recognized as a valuable tool for many people who are struggling or lost, needing a boost to their faith, and for Christian prison ministry supporters who wish to find out more about the fears, loneliness, and hopes of prisoners. "Except for three weeks over Christmas and January, I am fully booked every weekend until March 23," says Gartner. "My campaign is very well advertised wherever I go and has featured in national Christian newspapers."
