Xulon Authors Take Front and Center on Hometown Paper in Lieu of Election Results
In true authorial fashion, Virginia Coombs, co-author of We Suffered in Silence: How a Pastor's Family Lived in Shame While Hiding Dark Spots on the Clerical Collar, has been hard at work marketing and distributing her book to a rabid readership of hundreds. So far, the author's perseverance has paid off; when her hometown newspaper, the Willows Journal, elected to feature her new release in a full-length article, the author obliged. "We expected to see a small article in the Religion section of the paper," she recounts. "We thought the election would take front and center, not us! On the back page of the first section, our picture takes up half a page in color."
This is only the latest in a string of promotional opportunities the author has been gifted with by God. She has been interviewed on www.clubadventist; she manned a booth featuring We Suffered in Silence at her hometown's "National Night Out" event; she has advertised her book (via amazon.com) on five Internet chatlines; she was featured on a Spokane, Washington, TV program called "Empowered," which is currently airing on the HOPE satellite channel; she and her husband made an appearance at a woman's retreat in Washington State; the couple has held a book signing at their local library; and they have sent out brochures to many churches in Northern California suggesting they place their book on library shelves. They are currently lined up for a number of other promotional appearances, including a book signing at Barnes & Noble in February, another newspaper book review, an interview on California State University's KCHO Chico 91.7 FM, and a speaking engagement for the Women's Ministry in Northern California.
Additionally, "My husband has [also] been asked to provide a column for men in a women's newsletter on domestic violence issues," the author says. "He calls the column 'Mountains to Conquer: Tools for Men Who Are Perpetrators and Also Victims of Spousal Abuse.'"
This sparkling success story ultimately proves that a little bit of hard work and dedication can take your book to great lengths in a competitive market.
