Reflections:
Prayers for Living in Words and Pictures is the exploration of daily life through the startling
honesty of the written word, reflected in vibrant watercolors. It is Yin and
Yang, prayers of faith amid the chaos of abuse, neglect, longing and loss,
accompanied by images that reveal the light, line, texture, and rhythms of the
everyday around us. It is both a revelation of our need and an offering of
peace.
Conceived by Sally Oppenheimer with Jane Adriance, it brings together Ms.
Oppenheimer experiences as a family therapist for over 30 years, and Ms.
Adriance’s continuing passion for revealing the world around her.
Sally
Oppenheimer is a Psychiatric Social Worker and Family Therapist who has
compassionately listened to the joys and sorrows, hopes and defeats of clients
for over 25 years. She is a lifetime Member of the Society of Friends — Quakers
— from whence she draws inspiration, even as she expresses the doubts and
anguish that follow those in recovery from addiction, abuse and trauma. Ms.
Oppenheimer lives in Princeton and has two children and four grandchildren. She
is a graduate of the Bryn Mawr School of Social Work, has worked with Trinity
Counseling Services in Princeton, and is currently in private practice.
Jane
Adriance uses her art to express her unique way of seeing. As she says, “I
paint what is exotic to me in daily life, exploring the startling
contradictions between the everyday and the unknown.” Choosing mundane
objects—a clothesline in the wind, or a pepper cut in half —she enriches the
experience of her viewers, evoking the thoughts, feelings and emotions
reflected in the poems. Ms. Adriance has been using watercolors to explore her
world for over forty years. She has exhibited throughout the Northeast,
traveled and studied in Europe, and is a signature member of the Garden State
and New Jersey Watercolor Societies.
