LONGWOOD, FL--Dr. James F. Lacy's new Xulon Press title, Discovering the Bible: A Layman's History of the Origins and Preservation of the Holy Scriptures ($22.99, paperback, 978-1-60957-278-5), grew out of a series of lessons the author had prepared for his Sunday school class at Auburn United Methodist Church in Alabama. The class had asked him for a brief "refresher" course on how the Bible came to be, with a special emphasis on the history of each book and when each was made a part of the Bible. This book is the culmination of that research.

"I started the project with the idea that I could cover the subject in three or four lessons," the author says. "I was wrong--very wrong. It took six months. Even then I touched only the high points. As I was doing my research to prepare the lessons, I realized that there was no brief, easy-to-read history of the Bible."

In the process of preparing for the writing of this book, Lacy traveled to Israel four times, where he was inspired to continue his study of the Bible But it wasn't until his dear Christian friend, Kenneth Copeland, suggested he write a book that it finally came to fruition. "I had been considering such a project for a long time, but felt that I did not have the necessary computer skills to undertake such a project," he explains. "Kenneth volunteered to assist me, and his assistance, encouragement, advice, and patience helped make this book a reality." It is his hope that the words contained within this comprehensive history will resonate with lay people from all walks of life.
