LONGWOOD, FL-Ever wondered what is wrong with your workplace environment? Ever wanted to quit or run away? If so, then you are not alone. Author Madeline Maxwell's The Red Grip: A Woman Takes Flight from Workplace Adversity, Finding Solace on the Higher Ground ($13.99, paperback, 978-1-60266-259-9; $21.99, hardcover, 978-1-60266-260-5) is the true story of a womanÕs 30-year journey as a social worker and teacher, from her first job to her last, and her struggle with mental illness. When faced with human, secular, and supernatural evil, she took flight literally, figuratively, and spiritually. Feeling that her mental health was endangered, she went on frenzies of travel escapes that were always spiritually touching and rewarding. This piece of creative nonfiction bravely discusses those escapes and guides the reader through issues of evil, mental health, suicide, and loss.

Says Maxwell, "Psychology and mental health may not be what the public believes it to be. There is a spiritual connection, and that evil may hover around mental illness and around those who treat it. One can find peace and spiritual growth through travel."

Running from one side of the world to another, Maxwell sought to find the answers to her mental illness, which she soon discovered were merely diseases of the damaged soul. The knowledge she gained on her journeys was worth far more than any job. Maxwell soon learned that her mental problems were not really "cured" by modern-day treatment and medicine. Rather, she learned that by engaging in spiritual travel and pilgrimage, the effects of supernatural evil as felt in the workplace could be defeated by taking the high ground, both literally and figuratively.

Madeline R. Maxwell is a mother, grandmother, musician, and artist who travels often.
