LONGWOOD, FL--After losing both parents to unforeseen circumstances, 17-year-old Amber and 15-year-old Kim are left to pick up the pieces of their lives. Living in a community ravaged by drug addiction, however, presents an entirely new set of challenges to the girls as they struggle to fit in. Xulon Press author Norm Salter's new novel, Confusion: 'Til Drugs and Death Us Do Part ($20.99, paperback, 978-1-61579-632-8), is based on actual events that touched the author's life which he hopes people can use as a resource to learn about the devastating effects of drug use as well as how to spot the early signs of a drug addiction.
"The story is written in hopes of helping parents see the world from their kid's perspective, rather than an adult perspective," the author says. "Too often parents relate and compare situations to when they themselves were kids, and in reality their children are facing things much more dangerous and harmful than the parents realize."
As a contractor, parent, coach, and church member, Salter has seen firsthand the impact of drugs. Additionally, he and his wife were raising their two older children just when the drug problem was beginning to escalate in this country. "The sad conclusion is that by the time most parents realize what is happening to their drug-addicted children, it's far too late to intervene," he explains. "I hope the story will help parents with young children and teenagers have a different outlook and find ways to communicate better with their children."
