Learn to Love Your Stepchildren the Right Way

New Xulon Press release schools stepmothers in their roles

2008-09-23

LONGWOOD, FL-Every day, another step mother is given the responsibility of raising her stepchildren, as more biological mothers go to work and send their children to live with Dad. As a result, many stepmothers are completely unprepared to handle these difficult teenagers and angry kids who feel rejected by their own parents. Such was the situation with author Dawn Witt Denny, who struggled while raising her stepson through his tumultuous teenage years. In her new release from Christian self-publisher Xulon Press, The Step Mom Syndrome ($12.99, paperback, 978-1-60647-067-1), she encourages stepmothers in their roles, identifies who their sounding boards need to be, and helps them lean on Christ-not the world.

Says Denny, "God did not place anyone in the role of being a stepmother by accident. He has each of us there for a reason and we need to make it our mission to please God in how we do it. I hope [readers] find strength in what they are doing right, and I hope they find humor and wisdom from what they've done wrong. I hope [readers also] find Christ in what they do each day as they learn to love their stepchildren the right way."

Denny, an Emmy award-winning investigative television reporter, never expected to have such turmoil in her life after becoming a stepmother. Her stepson's biological mother lived out of state and rarely saw him, and her husband was away on business quite frequently, so "I was winging it big time!" the author says. Through her experiences, she learned how to turn what was initially a lose-lose situation into a big-time win for stepmothers everywhere! Now, in The Step Mom Syndrome, she hopes to help other women regain their heart and mind.
