Lawson-Watkins testifies of a woman fully dependent on God, who triumphed in battle

2014-08-20

MAITLAND, FL— Author Valerie L. Lawson-Watkins recounts the details of a true testimony that would be deemed a tragedy by most. Within the pages of her new book, "No Sad Story": A Story of Unconditional Love under Life's Pressures, ($16.99, paperback, 9781498405935; $8.99, e-book, 9781498409896) Valerie shares an intimate look inside the household of a wife, and her adulterous husband and former pastor, infected with the AIDS virus. Eventually, the author’s parents split. Valerie’s mother was left alone to face the challenge of raising six children, while fighting a terminal illness.

“I want to let readers know that God has not forgotten them, and by trusting His Word, they too will have the testimony of my mom: ‘no sad story,’” states the author. “HIV/AIDS is not a subject that is exposed very much in our church arena. The subject still carries negativity with it even if it wasn't your fault. Even though my mom was infected, she still ministered; she was believing for healing, so she could bring hope and healing to that community.”

Valerie Laverne Lawson-Watkins is no medical expert on HIV/AIDS, but she has lived through both parents’ battle against the virus, and she knows all too well the negative effects of such a process. The author feels the mandate to tell her mother’s story to others who are challenged with the same plight. Valerie surrendered her life to Christ at the tender age of eight years old when her father preached in a revival. As the only daughter that was raised with five brothers, her mother was her best friend. As an author, Valerie Laverne Lawson-Watkins can now thank her mother for living and showing her that she, too, can have “No Sad Story.”
