Author Linda Zirzow tells a delightful story about a courageous pig to encourage the young and young at heart in Wilbur, The Miracle Pig ($10.99, paperback, 9781662831034; $4.99, e-book, 9781662831041).
Zirzow’s story follows Wilbur, a young pig born with broken legs and one shorter leg as he receives support and tender loving care from a special little girl. Despite his physical impairments, with her help, Wilbur rises above all challenges and troubles to lead a fulfilled life.
This sweet story is true and the little girl featured in the story and the author are one and the same. This book resurrected during the author’s own physical therapy for a broken hip. During a therapy session, she observed a young boy struggling through his therapy for a broken leg. She, along with her therapist, offered encouragement to the boy. Zirzow shared her past true life story about Wilbur the pig, and the boy responded encouragingly. Upon seeing the positive outcome from the boy, her therapist suggested that she put Wilbur the pig’s story in print for others to gain encouragement.
“My book was written specially to help children faced with physical therapy and other physical challenges,” said Zirzow.
Linda Zirzow was raised on a farm in Illinois where from a young age, she devotedly cared for sick farm animals. To this day, her interests continue to be related to agriculture, animals, and individuals who want to continue learning. Zirzow holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education with eleven certifications including special education for children and adults. For 23 years, she has taught adult special education for the neglected and delinquent. Zirzow is a proud sponsor of a weekend camping program for U.S. veterans near Starved Rock, Illinois.
