Teddie Statler was born in Maine and at the age of ten she became a ward of the State until eighteen. As such she was placed in countless homes for varying periods of time. As such she was expected to work for her keep by cleaning house and taking care of the family’s children when she was but a child herself. With the exception of one placement she was abused in varying ways. Each time she expressed her experience she would say “But God was there.”
One family took her to church and she enjoyed teaching Sunday School lessons and in early 1938 she went to the alter of the Nazarene Church and gave her life to Jesus.
Teddie excelled at everything she did. She was valedictorian at her 8th grade graduation and salutatorian at her high school graduation, missing valedictorian by only tenths.
After graduation from high school she worked her way through one year of commercial school where she learned to type and take shorthand, a skill that would server her well for many years in the world of work.
Her business career took her first to the University of Maine, then to Hartford Connecticut to work for Life Insurance Agency Management.Later she moved to Denver, CO where she worked for Carter Oil Company followed by a position in the Federal Government as a secretary at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Research Center ultimately attaining the position of Executive Secretary to the Director.
Her passion in life was to study the Bible and teach it to others, including a ministry to the inmates at the Colorado State Prison. She loved to talk about Jesus and was very instrumental in leading others to His saving grace. She faithfully took the needs of others to God in prayer every day.
Although she was never very rich monetarily, her life was rich in so many other ways and “God was always there.”
