Having seen his first devil at three, raised in the family of one of the last Lutheran circuit riders of the West, and living in the home of a missionary to the deaf for thirty-nine years, Alvin Cordes graduated from Concordia Seminary in Springfield, Illinois in 1956. In the 1970s he took the two terms of linguistics for Bible translation work. He served thirteen years in the parish ministry, some five years in jail and homeless men's ministry, some ten years in teaching English to people of many different nationalities and GED students, and over forty years in nursing homes—sometimes as many as four a week—always preaching and teaching from the Greek. Certainty Evangelism helped him put to work the deliverance and healing gifts Jesus gave to believers (Mark 16: 17f). He is also the author of The Translator's New Testament and Questions for Growing Christians.
