Frances Gonzales Martinez was born in Del Norte, Colorado. At the age of two, she moved with family, to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she was raised.
I always had a love for writing and sewing, my mother was awesome in crafts and I picked up most of those gifts, yet writing was deep in my heart. I was born without eardrums, and this was not caught until the second grade. I was retained in first grade and in second grade, the following summer surgery was done. Even though I passed from there on it didn’t mean there were no struggles. I had learned to spell by memorizing the words, not by their sound. After surgery, my world was miserable all the noise and sounds and trying to figure out what made them, I wanted my silent world back. Spelling was very hard for me; I don’t feel that I have ever caught up. I thank God for “Word Document.” And the computer age with all the apps that correct your spelling.
