About the Author
In 1997 I entered a dark valley of depression when my husband, Jim, showed the first signs of dementia. Jim was angry all the time. I assumed I was the cause. After working together 34 blessed years, Jim as a dentist and I his dental hygienist, he was desperate to retire and assumed I knew the cause of his fear and anxiety. While Jim remained professional and kind to his patients, his anger was directed towards me.

In the midst of this, I went to the Lord. Through God’s Holy Word, the help of a Christian Psychologist, my physician, and a faithful prayer partner, I came out of my dark valley. I discovered that life is not about me but all about God and His unfailing love. During the 12 years of Jim’s debilitating disease, I received grace upon grace to move through it with love and joy.
This guided study was developed while I served as a Grief Care facilitator at a religious retreat on Lake Erie, and later at Spring Hills Baptist Church in Granville, Ohio. I have used this book as a tool in Grief Recovery and have facilitated the Grief Share program. The Joy of the Lord is my strength.
Pictures of Hope is a love letter to wounded hearts. God is able to lift us out of our dark valleys of despair, into “His Valley Called Blessed”. Fruit grows in His valley; a fruit of love that empowers the weary to rise and lift up another weary soul with the same hope they have experienced in God’s love.
Come join the great company of overcomers through Christ, who loves us and gave His life for us.
The Comforter is waiting.
Blessings,
Dixie L. Merrill
