This book is very close to my heart. For the first time I reveal that I lived in an abusive marriage for 4 decades. I told no one what my life was like until two years after my former husband passed away in 2013. I first wrote the book in 2002, but did not publish it and waited until after his death to re-write it. Starting in 2015, I taught the 12 lesson series 5 times at a ministry in Phoenix and followed the series with 12 lessons on becoming, “Forever Free from the Wounds of Your Past”. I have now seen scores of men and women healed when they finally understood why people are abusive. The Bible says that, “a double minded man (or woman) is unstable in all his ways.” They live as one person away from home, but at home, they abuse their spouse and children. I explain why this happens because you want to know why you’re treated like this, and how to be healed from the emotional turmoil you suffer. I want you to live in peace within your soul and have victory over the emotional pain that has defined you. So that when the memories come they just don’t hurt anymore.
Though I was still abused at home after I was saved, I became a voracious reader of Scripture and Christian books, to learn why I was treated as his enemy instead of his beloved. Within a couple years I began teaching in my church and then in other churches and later taught seminars nationwide, had 2 books published, earned a B.A. in New Testament and had a TV show in Chicago, where I was nominated for an Emmy. We were on Campus Crusade staff for 10 years. No one knew about our life at home. I praise God that He gave me the ability and opportunity to share His love and grace with thousands of people.
People in the classes on abuse and recovery were Christians. Because of abuse, they never knew the joy or felt the deep love of Christ in their life. All the promises in Scripture seemed to be written to others, but not to them. Now that he is free from the pain of the past and live to honor Our Lord and enjoy His grace and love in their lives.
