Finding Me chronicles a widow’s journey through grief to the discovery of who she is now.
After 50 years of marriage, Vickie Tingwald found herself alone, without a clear sense of who she was as an individual or how she would cope without Gary. After sharing so many years together, the journey alone was difficult. With Gary, she was strong. Without him, simple daily tasks seemed overwhelming.
Leaning on the memories of a happy marriage, she found the strength and will to move forward and discover her own identity. She learned to recognize and deal with the recurring waves of grief. “You never get over the loss, but you can get through it,” she affirms. Her experience leads down the path to peace and fulfillment for those who travel alone.
Finding Me takes you through the process of grief and the task of finding out who you are with half of you missing. The author hopes this book will ignite joy in “the you” that is left and help readers discover the best is yet to come!
Vickie Tingwald was born in Missouri but raised in Iowa. Her and Gary moved their family to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1991. She has been a widow since 2018, when her husband Gary passed away after a seven-year battle with ALS (Also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Vickie is the mother of four and grandmother of seven. She is a retired Assembly of God US Missionary and Children’s Pastor. Her husband was also a US Missionary and Chaplain with the Assemblies of God. Vickie stays active by spending her time enjoying her family, writing, and Volunteer work with the local ALS Chapter.
