M.A. Appleby narrates her perspective as a caregiver to her son when he suffered a Traumatic Brain injury; their frustrations, disappointments, as well as their triumphs. What the family did to regain their ‘sense of self’ will surprise and inspire you as she recounts their 10 Keys to Recovery and the many tips, and suggestions they learned along the way. It is both poignant and funny as she shares some of her coping mechanisms. This book is intended as a guide to understanding the uniqueness of brain injury. There is no ‘one size fits all’ nor is there a magic pill. As you read Raising David, Again, you will travel with the family as their faith was tested, their journey from a horrific accident, through discovery, recovery, and finally rehabilitation and a ‘new life’. If you or someone you know has suffered a TBI, ABI, or Stroke, you will find the Brain Injury Tool Kit, our Simplified Guide for Survivors, Caregivers, & Family of Brain Injury, several lists, and helpful hints that can assist in identifying what you need to do.
M.A. Appleby started a journal the day of her son’s accident. That tragedy threw their family into turmoil as they tried to understand brain injury. As a 24/7 caregiver and her son’s legal guardian, she knows how important it is not to ignore your own life, and that is where writing became cathartic for her. That ‘recovery’ journal became her therapy as her son recovered, and she wrote a trio of books called, A Whisper Mystery Trilogy. By the time the third book was completed, she realized it had given her closure. Ms. Appleby now blogs, gives presentations, and lectures about brain injury awareness. Her website:,  and their local brain injury support group: Miracles Among Us, Inc.
