Second
Wind: A Race of Faith Summary
At twenty-one, Harry
Spykerman dreams of success in business in Johannesburg, South Africa and
aspires to run the 400m in the 1952 Olympics. On finding God in the person of
Jesus Christ, Harry relinquishes his dreams and ambition and becomes a
missionary. When God calls him to reach indigenous people, he must confront his
own culturally ingrained prejudice. After a change of heart, his new calling takes
him into prisons, leper colonies and the bush of South Africa. In a remote
lonely outpost teaching the children of native tribes, Harry longs for a
companion who will share his heart to spread the gospel. Will he find a woman willing
to share the hardships of a missionary’s life? Can he persevere in his newfound
faith and overcome the challenges that a white missionary faces in Apartheid
South Africa?
