As a Christian psychologist who has worked with hundreds of children and adolescents experiencing behavioral or emotional problems, Dr. David E. Miller presents practical principles in this self-help book on parenting. In our fast-paced, contemporary society, good parents often lose focus on the essentials of raising their children. Dr. Miller presents normal developmental expectations, discusses the importance of maintaining a good parentchild relationship with good communication, suggests a variety of proven disciplinary methods that can help children reach maturity, and offers ways to nurture those elements contributing to a positive self-esteem.
While differentiating between punishment and discipline, Dr. Miller provides a multitude of suggested measures to ensure that discipline can be a positive and effective learning experience rather than a negative one. Although challenging for most, this book conveys that parenting can be a successful and rather enjoyable experience if parents utilize teamwork and implement the principles suggested.
