This novel presents an allegorical account of the life of the biblical character, Ruth, as she progresses through her internal struggles and complex relationship with Naomi, who guides her in wisdom and grace while navigating the currents of love in her romance with Dr. Swift. For those unfamiliar with the Old Testament’s biblical narrative (in four chapters) of the Book of Ruth (though not required), a brief reading would help capture the prevailing themes in Ruth’s life. This novel can be used as a guide in conducting successful relationships and guarding against internal and external forces that tend to gradually erode established unions. It seeks to reaffirm some common sense and conventional wisdom approaches we sometimes take for granted in building and maintaining a trustworthy relationship. It is my prayer that this literature would both minister to and confirm in the spirit of all readers biblical truths and applied knowledge where most needed in our walk with God and relationship with each other.

Captured by the imagination of the author as he guides his readers through the winding path of Ruth’s romantic storms, the disappointment of her past and her reluctance to try and love again infringed upon my reality as I journeyed along with the expectation that Naomi’s wisdom could make a difference. One assurance I have gained from this novel is that if Ruth can reap her harvest after life’s long wintery spell, then in comfort I will sit and wait for love to bloom.

Many women struggle with relationships throughout their lives. Often they give up, believing that they are unlovable or unworthy. Keeping Boaz is much more than a love story. It is packed with the advice on relationships from one friend to another.
Charles Davies has done a wonderful job in weaving Naomi’s counsel into the fabric of our relationships. I encourage everyone to read this novel and to always remember that they are loveable and that our relationships would be blessed by God if we first invite him into our lives.
