Is God a puppet master who pulls our strings or are we like Pinocchio, who cut his strings and ventured into the world on his own?
Most of us want a middle ground where we can count on God to be in charge—but only when we need Him to be. However, the middle ground is elusive. To believe in an all-powerful, all-knowing Creator is to relinquish self-sufficiency. But does this deny our ability to go our own way if God wants us to follow Him?
Free to Obey embraces the paradox raised by human will that is free to choose God or turn away from Him yet is not independent of the divine will. To find meaning within the tension between these polar extremes we must set aside either/or logic at points to engage both/and thinking. By doing this we discover that one of the mysteries for people of faith is that for God to get what He wants we must get what we want. This is not a middle ground but a mysterious confluence of human and divine wills.

Scott lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, and Crested Butte, Colorado with Debra, his wife of 52 years. They are blessed to have both their children and all 6 grandchildren close by in Edmond and during frequent visits to Colorado.
