Even though I was raised in church, I was not taught a lot about tithing.
I knew my parents tithed, but I didn’t really know the reasons.
It was not until I was in my 30’s, living in Macon, Georgia, that I began to hear about the benefits of tithing.
At the same time, I started a new job at a church across town. A big part of my job was to enter the contribution information into the computer system each week…..and I began to notice a pattern.
I had “inside information” about those that tithed, those that gave occasionally, and those that did not give.
There was a huge difference in the lives, the lifestyles, the attitudes, and the level of faith in the tithers versus the non-tithers!
This, along with the teaching I was hearing at the church I attended, began to convince me that I needed to tithe! There were so many areas in my life where I had desired change for years, but it never seemed to happen, until I began tithing consistently! Tithing was the key! Tithing was an outward demonstration of trust. It changed my life.
This is the story of my tithing journey.

Lyn Johnston Taken was raised in Opp, Alabama and was brought up in a caring home and active church. She left Opp for Troy to attend college, then moved to Montgomery, Alabama, and later to Macon, Georgia, where she met her husband, Don. “If you are over 40, single, and desire to get married, God has not forgotten you! I often felt He had forgotten me! I was 48 when we married!” She says though this book is about tithing, “it is really about so much more. Tithing is key to so many elements in the Christian walk.”
