They put their blood, sweat, tears, and faith into every sermon given every Sunday,
every call made to a congregant, and every prayer shared with a small group, person,
or even his own family.
However, the enemy is always on alert to take advantage of pastors that are struggling to
stay hopeful and faithful during trying times. This is apparent for small-town and rural
pastors who wear several hats in a church and sometimes feel overwhelmed to the point
of leaving ministry altogether.
Author John McHaffie knows this feeling personally, having been in ministry
throughout his whole life in mainly small church congregations. He shares his insight
and encouragement with other small-town pastors through his new book, Dear Small
Church Pastor, a collection of personalized letters.
These forty-one letters do not create a “how-to manual” of how to lead small churches
but more hope-filled motivation to assure pastors they aren’t alone in their feelings and
God will lead them through these times. The letters include scripture for inspiration, as
well as John’s own stories of feeling frustrations, dealing with failures, and wanting to quit.
Instead of giving into these feelings, John decided to write down his thoughts and this
morphed into Dear Small Church Pastor, a resource to reach pastors at their lowest
points and remind them God has called them to this ministry and will not leave them.
Pastors, whether they are operating large ministries or are wearing many hats in small
congregations, need encouragement that what they do matters and honors God.

He is originally from Sparta, MO and a graduate of Central Bible College, Springfield, MO, now resides in Sikeston, MO where he is a pastor of a small church.
