LONGWOOD, FL-Poetry is often used for therapeutic purposes, to help heal one emotionally or spiritually. Consider the psalms of David-poetry at its best. Sally Hamilton, author of Holy Treasure Chest (paperback, 978-1-60477-567-9), believes "poetry can be used to heal the soul of mankind."
Each of her poems, she says, has "a unique way of speaking to you that will cause you to look at your past and rethink your future, your freedom and your spiritual walk with God, our creator." She prays that readers, both men and women, will "find a poem that will leap off the page into your heart and cause a change in your life." And she hopes readers will then share that favorite poem or poems with someone else and encourage them in their walk with God. She believes "freedom can come from anywhere, even through spiritual poetry."
The author speaks from her own experience of having been down and needing help. She knows "what it looks like when you are standing on your own." And she has been able to encourage others with difficulties which seem insurmountable to them.
"I love helping people see themselves in a better light," Hamilton says. "If you can only believe you are worth it all, you are worth the risk. Tomorrow looks so much better if you only believe."
Sally Hamilton has a bachelorÕs and a masterÕs degree and is a licensed substance abuse counselor-in-training and a youth Sunday school teacher.
