MAITLAND, FL— Within the pages of Lea Karen Kivi’s new book, Abuse in the Church: Healing the Body of Christ, Workbook for Survivors, Supporters, and Church Leaders ($16.49, paperback, 9781629522845; $9.99, e-book, 9781629522852) the author delves into the aftermath of abuse, specifically within the church congregation. Unfortunately, many traumatized clergy abuse victims exist today, and vice-versa: clergy members who have been abused by members of their congregation. This book calls on all members of the Body of Christ to work together to care for such victims within their faith communities, and provides biblical principles and practical tips for survivors of abuse, their supporters, and church leaders to facilitate this care.

“In the Bible, 1 John 4:18 tells us that love casts out fear,” states the author. “Currently, there is much fear in churches because victims, laypeople, and church leaders are not talking to one another about how to bring healing to victims and to others affected by situations of abuse. This book brings together voices of abuse survivors, medical professionals, and church leaders, to help start a compassionate dialogue between all church members towards healing the Body of Christ.”

Lea Karen Kivi is a survivor of clergy abuse that she experienced as an adult. She has appeared on television (The Context with Lorna Dueck show), and appears on training videos for clergy on professional boundaries in ministry. In 2012, the author launched her company, Angela’s Heart Communications Inc. (www.angelasheart.ca) in Toronto, Canada. She uses a share of the profits from this business and technology communications company to support its mission, which is to provide resources in support of healing for those harmed in various forms and circumstances in society. This book, Abuse in the Church: Healing the Body of Christ, is one of those resources. A related book, A Survivor’s Journey through the Bible, is also available for immediate purchase.
