Domestic
Violence: The Awakening of the Church to this Important Issue in Today’s
Society tells the story of a woman who has experienced domestic
violence in her household and has suffered a loss of self-esteem, security, and
spiritual covering. This woman seeking help to flee an abusive situation can
turn to secular society to direct her to shelters, lawyers, and finances to
relieve her fears of finding a place for herself and her children, and though churches
are aware of domestic violence issues, many pastors, leaders, and laypersons
are not properly trained to minister to victims seeking guidance and
support. The purpose for the book is to demonstrate that domestic violence
should be an important issue to churches, organizations, and individuals, and
that they should offer emotional and spiritual support.
“Individuals that find
themselves in an abusive relationship need to know that God loves them. They
also need guidance and support from pastors, church leaders and laity that are
properly trained by individuals/organizations that provide services and
resources for victims of abuse,” said Payne.
