Author David Tracy calls for change within the organization of the Catholic church in Caught Between the Gospel and the Magisterium: When Sheep Have to Shepherd ($16.49, paperback, 97816628311881; $7.99, e-book, 9781662831898).

After working diligently to remove an alcoholic pedophile from his beloved local parish, Tracy’s eyes were opened to flaws in the appointment of church leaders.  He feels that Bishops are out of touch with the communities they serve, and appoint successors just as blind as themselves.  Tracy advocates resurrecting an older method of electing leaders in order to revive parishioners’ confidence in the church.

Tracy makes the case for a return to Apostolic roots by allowing the faithful a meaningful role in the selection of Bishops. “Under duress, sometimes sheep have to Shepherd,” he said.

David Tracy is graduate of Colorado State University, where he studied Political Science and Journalism after leaving his Jesuit high school.  He wrote for a variety of publications throughout his career, including a Catholic weekly and the Rocky Mountain News.  Now retired, Tracy continues to serve his local parish as a Lector and Cantor.
