Reveals how the day she set foot in an evangelical church changed her life

LONGWOOD, FL-Like many people, author Deborah Alvord knew of Jesus and had attended church as a child--but none of that had prepared her for the dissolution of her marriage or her brush with cancer. When she needed a church to be a reflection of Christ, all she saw was ugliness. Feeling betrayed, she turned away from God and instead chose to be an outsider. But God had not turned from her--and He had different plans for her in store. On November 15, 1998, those plans came to fruition as she set foot in an evangelical church and was greeted with His love and kindness. In I Was You: Finding God While Walking Among Born Again Evangelicals ($10.99, paperback, 978-1-61579-553-6), the author has penned an enjoyable and practical guide to the world of born again evangelicals that is designed for both the curious observer and the committed born-again Christian.

"Don't worry; this will not be a detailed theological document," the author says. "It is neither my intent nor within my ability to answer your questions about God. Rather, my hope is that by sharing my and others' questions and observations, you will have a jumpstart on your own personal adventure."

Born into a Catholic family, Alvord says her family went to church for a 35-minute mass each Sunday and put God aside for the rest of the week. But after that one day 10 years ago, her life has never been the same. It is her hope that the story she shares within the pages of this book will resonate with outsiders who know about Jesus but have chosen to turn away from Christianity, adults of either sex or any race who are curious about born again evangelicals, and worldwide outreach ministries of evangelical churches.
