LONGWOOD, FL-Within the pages of Preacher's Kid ($15.99, paperback, 978-1-60957-366-9), a new release from Xulon Press author Joyce Lee Herndon, readers will find a collection of vignettes based on the life of a young, skinny, straggle-haired girl growing up in a country preacher's family during the 1950s. Churches in South Georgia and the people whose lives merged with the girl provide the reader an opportunity to view life as it was during this quaint time period. Rich in culture, the vignettes provide a legacy for future generations to enjoy.

"I want readers of all ages to reflect upon and examine traditional and cultural values in the Southern United States while enjoying this collection of stories," the author says. "It will help the reader, whether a middle school child or adult, to relive life with its heartaches, joys, complexities, and simplicities while viewing them through the eyes of a young girl whose daddy was a country preacher."

Herndon, a retired 65-year-old elementary school teacher, says that she has spent much of her adult life writing and encouraging her students to do the same. As the author of a local newspaper column titled "Glancing Back," she encourages readers to think about what legacy they will leave their children. It is her hope that she will help to keep the cultural traditions of the 1950s alive in Preacher's Kid, and that other readers might be inspired to do the same with their own lives.
