Book unveils faith-based approach to surviving in a difficult situation

LONGWOOD, FL--When Xulon Press author Karen I. S. Shablin lost her job in June of 2008, she had no idea what opportunities awaited her. When the recession hit in 1982, she had still managed to build a pretty good career, and although she did not relish the thought of having to repeat that experience, she used this period of time to listen to what God was telling her to do. So when He put it on her heart for her to start her own business--a healthcare policy consulting firm--and write a book about her experiences, she could not refuse. Within the pages of Loving Your Layoff (Survival Is an Attitude, Success Is a Decision) ($10.99, paperback, 978-1-60957-155-9), the author's new release, readers will find a faith-based approach to surviving in a difficult situation.

"[I want readers to know] that they are not alone, and that a layoff is not the end of their world," she says. "At a time with nearly 10% of our population unemployed, we all need a guide to help us through, and no one should have to reinvent the wheel."

Shablin, who says she is the face of the new unemployed, believes that sometimes a layoff may represent the opportunity to make a significant life change, and that people should embrace it as an opportunity to follow God's leading in their life. "We don't always recognize God's gifts at the time, but He will keep tapping us on the shoulder or slapping us on the back of the head until we see them for what they are. Sometimes that hint comes in a painful form... like being laid off. Remember that hints are God's way of saying, 'Take this chance. Make this change. Do I have your attention? Listen to Me.'"
