LONGWOOD, FL--There are probably as many different definitions of the prosperity doctrine as there are heads on a hydra. That was why Xulon Press author Stan Bialik penned I Never Promised You a Pink Cadillac: A Biblical Assault on the Prosperity Doctrine ($10.99, paperback, 978-1-978-1-60791-465-5), a scriptural assault on the common base of these many manifestations. While greed-motivated preachers lure people into giving with a hope of easy financial returns for their donations, the New Testament presents a starkly different warning for those who would dare to take up their cross and follow Jesus. This book goes through the entire New Testament, highlighting the suffering of the saints not only in the past, but also in the present and the future as well. It brings a sobering balance to our perspectives of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Says Bialik, "[My book] shows a consistently recurring theme in the history of those who have followed God's leading: That they will face persecution and difficult times. The book is unique in that it not only traces this history through the Old and New Testaments, but carries it through to the church age, modern times, and then the future."

Growing up in a ministry home, Bialik's early introduction to Christianity helped teach him to constantly follow God's leading as an adult. In the mid '90s, he was led to spend two years in Siberia as a missionary. He currently works as an instructor for the U.S. Department of Defense.
