LONGWOOD, FL--When America's president, Jazelle Damon, places control of the U.S. Armed Forces in the hands of her husband, the UN secretary general, he demands Israel relinquish Judea and Samaria to the Palestinians. This choice could cost Israel its very existence. Meanwhile, General John Redden has been assigned to command the UN forces and remove all Jews from Judea and Samaria. Has he been sent to bring stability to the region, or does his employer want to create Auschwitz-type borders around Israel to further the Arabs' goal of annihilating the Jews once and for all? Set against a backdrop of political intrigue and treason, Marlena Ariel Geren's Jeshurun: The Land of the Upright One ($21.99, paperback, 978-1-60791-210-1) deals with Israel's quest for peace by weaving historical facts and events with an unconventional romance. Says Geren, "The novel is timely because the Middle East drama is in the news daily. [I hope readers will] view the Middle East peace process from a different standpoint and see that Israel has never been an obstacle to true peace. [I am] hoping not just to entertain the reader, but also to give a glimpse of certain facts that are never mentioned in the world media." Geren, an American citizen since 1996, traveled on location and spent three years doing research for this novel. During her travels, the author was able to meet and observe the Israeli Defense Forces from up close on many different occasions and even witnessed a doctor in an Israeli hospital trying to save the life of a suicide bomber. These experiences lend strength to the author's belief that Israel is a long-suffering victim that has given so much good to the world--both spiritually and naturally.
