LONGWOOD, FL-Living in Iraq under the dictatorship of former dictator Saddam Hussein helped Dr. Diane Hassan realize how important the fight for freedom was, not only in her own life, but also globally. In her new release from Christian self-publisher Xulon Press, Angels Among Us...Even in Iraq ($17.99, paperback, 978-1-60477-178-7), the author chronicles her life in Iraq until she and her family dramatically escaped an assassination attempt on her husband, then a prominent member under Hussein's political regime, during Saddam's purge after Desert Storm. This fascinating story of love and survival will prove to readers, through the strength of the indomitable human spirit, how people can overcome any obstacle to fulfill a dream.

Says Hassan, a native of Dothan, Alabama, "I want people to realize how lucky they are to live in freedom. I pray that as they meet the angels God sent to help me, they will become more aware of the angels God sends to help them. I want my readers to know the good people of Iraq and how important Iraq is for our freedom as well. They will realize freedom is not free. No matter how dark our days are, God will send sunshine."

Hassan says her story shows how people of different cultures and ideologies can overcome natural barriers and live in peace. For example, in the midst of Desert Storm, "I was in a small village about five minutes from the largest airport in the Middle East, and all the military target surrounded us," she says. "I lived for 44 days in this village. At times we did not have food, but the Sunni farmers kept us fed-and my husband's family is Shiite!" The author believes stories like these prove there are indeed angels among us-even in Iraq.
