Author Margaret Mims Johnston's book deals with conflict on the playing field, at leisure, and in close personal relationships. "Vault is a novel, so the first gains [for a reader] would be entertainment and personal identification with the conflicts and opportunities faced by the characters," the author explains. "Vault is also a Christian novel, so it is designed to lead the readers to gain an understanding of how the church helps Christians seek and find resolution of these conflicts and take hold of opportunities."
Johnston--a writer, editor, and journalism educator--says that she was bitten by the writing bug in eighth grade (when she began writing articles) but that Vault is her first venture into fiction. After graduating from Furman University, she was a public relations assistant and copy editor and layout specialist for The Commission, a magazine for the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board, which is now the International Mission Board, in Richmond, Virginia. She later taught English and journalism in Hermitage High School before moving to the faculty of the College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia.
