LONGWOOD, FL-Never underestimate what a carefully selected card and verse of Scripture can do for a grieving heart. When Annette Toles Young's sister-in-law sent her a package with a card, reading material on grieving, and very specific Scripture verses following the first anniversary of Young's husband's death, the author began reading them daily. The verses were timely, much-needed reminders of God's unfailing love which rekindled the author's faith and spirit. In From Grief to Glory: Poems for Healing ($9.99, paperback, 978-1-60477-197-8), the author shares her unique journey from grief to healing through poetry in the hopes that it will comfort and guide those on a similar mission.

Says Young, "It is my sincere desire that individuals who may be grieving and even those who are not will recognize how important it is to acknowledge the grief experience is something you have to work out by yourself with God as your personal guide. No other person can help you with the resolution of your grief because it's a personal journey. When a husband dies for instance, in addition to a grieving wife, there may be children who have lost a father, a father and mother who have lost a son, as well as brothers and sisters who have lost a sibling. Each one of these individuals will have to travel their own path in grieving for their loved one."

When Young's husband died on October 25, 1996, it was less than two months away from their 26th wedding anniversary. Prayer, God's abiding love, family, friends, church family, and the book's poems helped sustain her through seven years of sadness and difficulty as a widow before she began to experience healing. " This allowed me to fully understand and be able to share with others what it means to let go of our selfish, controlling grip we think we have on life, so we may experience the joy and glory of the loving presence of God," she says.
