LONGWOOD, FL--There are many people who carry a great deal of pain within themselves, and they often end up inflicting this pain onto others by repeating cycles such as abuse. According to some estimates, a startling one in three people who have been abused become abusers themselves--thus demonstrating the virulent need for understanding about this sensitive yet predominant issue. Author Joyce L. Villeneuve's new Xulon Press release, The Courage to Forgive: A Journey of Forgiveness, Grace and Redemption ($14.99, paperback, 978-1-60957-029-3; $22.99, hardcover, 978-1-60957-030-9) shows--through the powerful testimony of the author--how forgiveness benefits the forgiver, and how the grace offered through forgiveness can impact and change the lives of both the forgiver and the forgiven.

"[I want readers to] understand that there is hope for them to regain their life by being able to confront and overcome issues of unforgiveness, even in the most turbulent and heartbreaking situations, so that they can lead fulfilling lives without becoming victims," the author says. "The book also allows the reader to see how faith can help in the recovery process and in rebuilding relationships when grace and forgiveness are offered to the offender."

Villeneuve, a resident of Colorado Springs, says that the idea for this book stemmed from her having lived through the trauma of abuse and the horrors of war firsthand. "The experiences and thoughts expressed in the book are drawn from my lived experiences, and finding the grace to forgive has led me to be the person I am today," she explains.
