LONGWOOD, FL " Fifty years ago the McAfee family moved to Central Brazil to begin missionary work. In Please God, Be With Us ($16.99, paperback, 9781613791530), author Steven D. McAfee recounts that during this time, the government was in turmoil, the economy was in shambles and the people were looking for answers in a spiritual void. Please God, Be With Us is an eight year account of McAfee as a kid growing up while watching the missionary work unfold in these uncertain times. Fifty years later, there is still a McAfee missionary presence in Central Brazil and the book depicts the current work in Brazil in the political, social and economical context.

McAfee explains the importance of telling the story of the men and women who establish a home in other countries and start churches that have the long-term effect on the kingdom of God, not the short-term trips to countries close by.  Please God, Be With Us presents a platform for the story of the ?"live-in” missionaries to be told in order to inspire and encourage those people at home, caught in the myopic perspective of their own political and economic problems. Please God, Be With Us is a description of the period of McAfee’s life during which he met many kids facing the same difficult transition: growing up in a foreign culture, becoming a part of it, and then having to return to their native country to restart his or her life.

McAfee is a graduate of Manhattan Christian College, B.A. in Bible-
Ministries, Lincoln University, M.A. in Church Growth and World Missions and
Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, M.Div. with an emphasis in Pastoral
Care. He now lives in Council Bluffs, Iowa and is an
adjunct instructor at Iowa Western Community College.
