LONGWOOD, FLAfter a year of chemotherapy and 16 months of wearing headscarves, Pamela Phillips learned many ways to cover her head. In TIE ONE ON: A Head-Scarf Tying Guide for Chemotherapy Patients ($29.99, paperback, 978-1-61379-492-0; $40.99, hardcover, 978-1-61379-493-7; $5.49, eBook, 978-1-61379-577-4), a new title from Xulon Press, the author discusses the advantages of wearing a scarf and instructs readers with 60 full-color photographs and easy-to-follow directions to tie scarves beautifully and attractively. Women who read this book will find strength in knowing how to control how they are perceived—even if they don’t feel in control of their own destiny.

“It is my wish that TIE ONE ON will give the reader encouragement in creating a beautiful way to wear their chemotherapy side effects with flair, grace and confidence,” the author says. “There is not another book like this out there.”

During the time when Phillips was undergoing chemotherapy, strangers would frequently stop her and comment on how beautiful her turban-tied scarf looked. She didn’t think too much of it until the women at her support group asked her to show them how she had tied her scarf. “I decided then that an instructional book might be helpful to those of us who have chemotherapy and its unwanted side effects as an ongoing part of our lives,” she explains.

A portion of the proceeds from TIE ONE ON will go to support ovarian cancer awareness, education, advocacy, and research.
