LONGWOOD, FL—Understanding the true nature of grief can often lighten the burden of it. At its core, grief is the continued expression of love for the person who has died. When this insight is grasped by the mourner, they can have the hope that there is still purpose in their life after the loss. The mourner can also have the promise that they will have the resources available to make it through the grief journey. Love Never Dies ($15.99, paperback, 978-1-61379-600-9; $25.99, hardcover, 978-1-61379-601-6; $7.99, eBook, 978-1-61379-964-2), a new Xulon Press title from author Larry Barber, LPC-S, CT, breaks with the majority of grief and self-help books that call upon mourners to navigate phases, levels, or tasks of grief in order to overcome it. This book shares with mourners the idea that grief is another expression of love, which allows them to continue a healthy, healing relationship with the deceased.

“Grief is the natural response to the loss of a loved one,” the author says. “Grief is not abnormal. Grief is not an illness to be cured or recovered from, a disorder to be diagnosed and treated, a problem to be corrected, or a sin that demands repentance. Grief has its own timetable which cannot be changed by the mourner or those around them.”

Barber, a widowed single father of two children, says that walking the grief journey was what inspired him to write this book. Ever since his first prayers to God for help and support in his grief, he says God has sent grief messengers into his life and has been shaping him into a mourner who is armed to help himself and other mourners through grief. Barber—who is also the director of GriefWorks, a children’s grief support service—hopes that the insights in this book will be a resource of support and encouragement for everyone mourning the death of someone they love.
