MAITLAND, FL Within the pages of Leonard M. Payne, Jr.’s new book, Christians Disguised As Prisoners ($14.99, paperback, 978-1-62230-440-0; $22.99, hardcover, 978-1-62230-441-7; $7.49, e-book, 978-1-62230-442-4) readers will discover an atypical “mission field”. The author’s objective is to make the reader aware of this seemingly unlikely avenue for ministry. According to Payne, the church is the ultimate institution that can bring true healing for the victim, the offender and the community.

Prisons are Mission Fields in which God has brought the world into the back yards of His Church,” states the author. “Any given prison in America houses inmates from all countries around the world; thus, I am convinced that prisons are institutional altars inviting outside churches to fulfill the great commission ‘to go into all the world’.”

Leonard began this journey as a church pastor and social service worker in the area of child neglect and abuse. He has had a distinguished thirty year career in Criminal Justice as a program director; volunteer coordinator and prison chaplain. He has a keen insight into his rewarding ministry. He draws knowledge from personal experiences, writing policies, training staff and volunteers. He lives in St. Clairsville, Ohio, with his wife, Charlotte and they have three daughters and six grandchildren.
