MAITLAND, FL— In the new book written by Amanda Hetrick-Keith, Mama, What Does Foster Mean? ($17.99, paperback, 978-1-62509-211-3; $8.99, eBook, 978-1-62509-212-0), both young readers and adults will better understand all the different types of families that children can have. The author has made sure readers of all ages will be able to grasp the meaning found within the pages of this warm story about how a young little girl finds hope in a loving home. Hetrick-Keith is quick to point out that every remark made by an adult can have a lasting affect on a child and that every day children face challenges that they don’t always understand. Every adults’ responsibility is to serve as a role model for children and teach them how to handle life.

“I feel that this book offers hope to families that deal with difficult situations. Weather it’s a problem child, a foster child, a biological child or a mixed family, children today live in a world that often pays little attention to them,” states the author. “I myself was a foster child that was adopted through our state system. It is through my experiences that I have learned a lot about children and the way they view themselves and the world around them.”

Amanda Hetrick-Keith has been working with children for thirty years. She has taught at a local Head Start for sixteen years, she and her husband have been foster parents for ten years and through their local Children and Youth agency they have adopted four children. They have fostered over twenty children. The author hopes this story brings to life the day-to-day struggles that come to children and help adults realize that what they say does make an impact on them.
