Hoefs pioneers the niche of Christian support for life after a mental health diagnosis

MAITLAND, FL— In his new book, Fresh Hope: Living Well In Spite of a Mental Health Diagnosis ($16.99, paperback, 978-1-62509-425-4; $8.99, e-book, 978-1-62509-426-1) Brad Hoefs addresses a rising epidemic in the United States: mental health disorders. According to the author, nearly one in three Americans has a mental health issue within a given year, “yet, there is hardly any help that is offered for mental health issues from a Christian perspective.” That is, until now.

“[Readers] will receive practical insights and spiritual encouragement to become empowered for wellness regarding their mental health,” states the author. “This is a definite must-read for those living with a mental health diagnosis and their loved ones, for doctors, pastors, and counselors.”

Pastor Brad Hoefs was diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder in 1995, after experiencing a very public and painful manic episode. This episode led to him being asked to resign as the senior pastor of a large growing church. After his resignation a group of people formed Community of Grace Church and provided the Hoefs with a safe place to heal and find hope. It is out of this experience that Brad started Fresh Hope in 2009, a Christ-centered support group for those who suffer from mood disorders, as well as for their loved ones. Fresh Hope has grown to numerous locations throughout the US, with new groups starting all the time. Brad serves as senior pastor at Community of Grace in Elkhorn, NE. He also serves as a member of the State of Nebraska’s Advisory Committee to the Governor on Mental Health Services.
