MAITLAND, FL— Chick BeVier’s new book, Because We Don't Sail Alone: Conversations to Build a Life Upon ($15.99, paperback, 978-1-62509-336-3; $7.99, e-book, 978-1-62509-337-0) is a collection of stories designed to provoke in-depth conversations about how the Godly virtues and their attendant vices play out in life. The author introduces readers to a method of thinking, known as vertical thinking: “Vertical thinking reveals the actual and hidden nature of anything we seek to study. When applied in conversation, vertical thinking allows vertical conversations to occur,” expounds the author.

“This works! For over thirty years these stories have been used at our children’s camps in Connecticut and Maine, around the author’s dinner table,” states BeVier, in regard to this book. “Our children are asking us to engage with them in serious discussion about life’s important issues. When given the chance to, our children respond with enthusiasm and remarkable candor. The job of parents, teachers, mentors [and] youth group leaders is to engage with them!”

Chick BeVier is the founder and executive director of Camp Eagle Feather, a day camp in Connecticut which serves 850 campers per summer, and Camp Eagle Wing, a traditional coed resident camp in Maine, where he conducts the philosophy training portion of the Anchor Points Program: a summer long program for sixteen year olds, which provides the kind of training that leaders should receive. The stories in “Because We Don’t Sail Alone” were written by Chick over a forty-year period and have been heard (and put to good use) by thousands of campers and parents.
