MAITLAND, FL— In Anthony Melgoza’s new book, Eternal Ones ($17.99,
paperback, 978-1-62509-388-2; $27.99, hardcover,
978-1-62509-936-5; $8.99, e-book, 978-1-62509-389-9) readers will follow alongside as a
group of “Los Angelenos,” gang members, deal with the threat to their lives. One of these
Los Angelenos, a born-again believer, is the arch-nemesis of this very force—a
powerful drug lord out for vengeance. The author drives home the point that God
is interested in non-believers just as much as He is in believers; God welcomes
even gang members to turn away from evil and serve Him.
“The issue of gangs in our society is still a relevant issue in the 21st century,” states the author. “There was an awareness of the challenge in creating a novel that did not glorify gangs, yet gave hope in getting out of the lifestyle and living above the trials of life, while at the same time, telling a compelling story that engages the reader to also explore the possibility of a real and personal connection with God.”
Anthony Melgoza lives in the California Central Valley. He is an uncle to a niece and two nephews. In 1986, while in high school, he began writing the “Eternal Ones”, at the time entitled “City of the Angels-The Barrio of East L.A” and “Varrio” in later versions. His fascination with gangs began in high school, wondering why they behaved the way they did and what the rules were. He thought creating a novel about it would be fascinating and so he researched the subject through news, media, and online material throughout the years. After 1993, he updated the novel to suit his Christian beliefs, changing the title to “Eternal Ones.” While attending a Christian writing conference in the East Bay a few years later, the Lord very strongly impressed upon him that it was his calling to write and to release this book.
