Haviland, is brought to life. The author emphasizes her subject’s extraordinary life service during the Civil War era. According to the author, the book serves to remind all that “the greatest joys in life are in giving of ourselves to God and others.”

“In our day and age of deep racial divide, we can learn from Mrs. Haviland’s narrative and example of sacrificial service during the midst of the brutal Civil War,” states the author. “As Christians, we must engage and live out our conviction to ‘love one another’ in spite of our differences. ‘I was thirsty and you gave me drink,’ Matthew 25:35.” Laura S.
