MAITLAND, FL— Within the pages of Martha B. Hook’s book, Glory Be! ($16.99, paperback, 9781628713923; $8.99, e-book, 9781628713930) a young widow and a country doctor, both trying to heal from abusive marriages and personal trauma, form a unique friendship. As America recovers from the Civil War, their difficult circumstances, personal fears and memories of past struggles keep the two apart, until God’s faithfulness and their love for one another wins out. Overall, this literary work is a masterfully penned, historical novel—complete with vibrant imagery—which is set in the Reconstruction Era (post-Civil War).

“Bottom line: I wanted to write a good, meaty, historical novel that would have a positive spiritual impact on readers,” states the author. “More specifically, my goal in writing Glory Be! was to encourage wounded people to learn from the hard lessons of my main characters.”

Martha B. Hook is a seventy-eight year old, fourth generation Texan. She describes herself as having “many interesting life experiences, travels and adventures,” which she draws upon as she writes. She holds a Master’s of English Literature, and has taught literature to college students. Proceeding a forty-year-long marriage, which ended in divorce, the author went on to obtain extensive, graduate level training in the field of counseling. Martha also facilitated a divorce recovery group for eleven years. As a result of this training and her experiences counseling people, she is able to show in Glory Be! what abandoned and abused people might go through.
