MAITLAND, FL— Ferdinand V. Melendres has
penned the new book, EMPOWERING IMMIGRANTS: Leadership
Development of an Immigrant Church, ($16.49, paperback, 9781498412575;
$8.99, e-book, 9781498412582) in order to enlighten the minds of the pastors
and church leaders whose parishioners are mostly immigrants, and to train them
to do their respective ministries effectively. The motivation behind producing
this text is the corporate goal of widespread growth and transformation
throughout the whole church body. The author wisely points out that this
objective depends solely on leadership development.
“Many churches today [whose members are mostly immigrants] are experiencing some growth, however it was observed that some things were lacking in the immigrant churches in America,” states the author. “Though the Church also began to engage in cell groups and house churches, the lack of leadership training still needs to be addressed. This book was written to address these issues.”
Ferdinand V. Melendres is a graduate with a M.Div., and a Doctor of Ministry. This book received an “Excellence in Ministry” award at the New York Theological Seminary in 2014. The author immigrated to the U.S., and experienced many of the hardships of being an immigrant. Later on, he was imprisoned in Saudi Arabia for preaching the gospel. Ferdinand has been in the mission field for more than twenty-five years, teaching and preaching the Word in Asia, the Middle East, the Holy Land, Europe, and the U.S. As he traveled, the author saw the needs of training the leaders particularly the pastors whose membership are mostly immigrants.
