MAITLAND, FL— Within the pages of G.P. Jordan’s new book, WHAT'S IN YOUR SUITCASE? - A Place in my heart for you, ($11.99, paperback, 9781498452168) readers will discover the story of how foster parent Momma J graciously and lovingly finds a way to express her feelings and prepare a young boy named Malik, for his adoption. Although a fictional character, Malik represents any child who is struggling with leaving the comforts of a foster family. Writing from the point of view of a foster parent and teacher, and having witnessed the hurt, mistrust, fear, loneliness and anger foster children carry, the author created Malik and other characters based on realistic life events. The characters and the storyline are designed to elicit the readers’ compassion – and simultaneously be a voice for the unheard – while sounding an alarm for their need to be secure, safe, cared-for and loved. This book could effectively be used as a resource to assist children with placement moves.

My hope is that after reading my book, readers will take away an acute awareness of our responsibility to foster children’s need and right for love, security, dignity, and respect,” states the author. “The book will also, hopefully, develop sensitivity to the need for change in the transition process of foster children to other foster homes and/or adoptive care.”

G.P. Jordan is a Master of Education Educator and has been a licensed foster parent for many years. She recognizes how a placement move can seriously impact a young child. Jordan took many foster children into her home over the past fifteen years. She has been a witness to a foster care system awash with children struggling with the pain, loss, and uncertainty of having to leave their foster homes for more permanent placements with adoptive families.
